The European-Mediterranean Seismological Centre (EMSC) reported a magnitude 3.0 quake in Switzerland near Bern, Bern-Mittelland District, Canton de Berne, only 6 minutes ago. The earthquake hit early afternoon on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2025, at 3:59 pm local time at a very shallow depth of 2.60 km. The exact magnitude, epicenter, and depth of the quake might be revised within the next few hours or minutes as seismologists review data and refine their calculations, or as other agencies issue their report.
Based on the preliminary seismic data, the quake should not have caused any significant damage, but was probably felt by many people as light vibration in the area of the epicenter.
Weak shaking might have been felt in Eggiwil (pop. 2,600) located 5 km from the epicenter.
Other towns or cities near the epicenter where the quake might have been felt as very weak shaking include Steffisburg (pop. 15,700) located 13 km from the epicenter, Thun (pop. 43,700) 15 km away, and Burgdorf (pop. 16,400) 28 km away. In Bern (pop. 121,600, 28 km away), Koeniz (pop. 41,800, 30 km away), Kriens (pop. 25,000, 44 km away), Emmen (pop. 30,900, 46 km away), and Biel/Bienne (pop. 55,100, 53 km away), the quake was probably not felt.
