The presidents of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia have agreed that any decision to dismantle the railway connection with Russia and Belarus will be made jointly.

The leaders of the countries announced this at a press conference in Riga, Delfi reports.

Estonian President Alar Karis said that the countries had already discussed the possibility of dismantling the infrastructure, but stressed that it was necessary to act in a coordinated manner, as the situation in each country was different, and transport routes from Central Asia remained active. This issue was referred to the ministers for further work.

Lithuanian President Gitanas Nauseda stressed that the Baltic states must act in a coordinated manner not only on the tracks, but also on the creation of a Baltic defense line. He called on the European Commission to ensure funding for such projects in the short and long term. According to him, the possible dismantling of the railway could be part of counter-mobility measures.

Latvian President Edgars Rinkėvičs added that the countries will consider this issue comprehensively, along with combating mobility and plans to strengthen defense. There are no final decisions yet – the work is continuing between governments and military experts.

The Baltic leaders also discussed support for Ukraine and regional security issues.

As previously reported, Lithuania stated that the last day was the “most intense” in November due to the launch of balloons carrying contraband from the territory of Belarus.

Recall that Estonia will provide Ukraine with 3.5 million euros for the purchase of Starlink communication systems.
