In Kyiv, a meeting between Ukraine’s Defense Minister Denys Shmyhal and Slovenian Defense Minister Borut Sajovec took place, during which they discussed further directions of defense cooperation between the two states.

The head of the Defense Ministry clarified that the meeting took place in Kyiv.

“Thank you to Slovenia for support across all important areas, including participation in the PURL initiative. This is indeed an important initiative to strengthen our capabilities, primarily in the field of air defense. We highly value that Slovenia plans to allocate about €43 million by the end of the year for this mechanism”

The head of the MoD also emphasized the significance of the Security Cooperation and Long-Term Support Agreement between the countries.

Key directions of defense cooperation

The parties discussed ways to develop joint defense potential and cooperation within European initiatives.

According to the participants, Ukraine and Slovenia are considering the possibility of joint industrial projects within the EDIP and SAFE frameworks, as well as in the Danish model format.

They also discussed providing training weapons for the preparation of Ukrainian troops and using frozen Russian assets to bolster Ukraine’s defense.

Analysts emphasize that Ukraine’s main advantage lies in focusing on the private sector and full localization of weapon production, which strengthens defense capabilities in the long term. Such steps support the development of defense cooperation and industrial cooperation within European initiatives.

This meeting demonstrates the willingness of the countries to develop joint industrial projects and deepen security cooperation within European formats.
