Moldova has turned to Romania for help with electricity supply after massive Russian attacks on Ukraine. The state-owned enterprise Moldelectrica officially appealed to its Romanian colleagues for emergency assistance to support the stable operation of the region’s energy system in the coming hours.
According to reports, as a result of strikes on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure in the border region with Moldova, a large energy hub was disconnected, and cross-system interconnections are operating at the limit of capacity.
Moldelectrica noted that the appeal to Romania is intended to prevent overload and avoid possible outages in Moldova’s energy system in the coming hours.

The statement indicates that the support received is intended to ensure stable and safe operation of Moldova’s national energy system, reduce the risks of overloads and unplanned outages.
Citizens are advised to use electricity prudently, especially during peak consumption hours, to reduce the load on the grid.
As previously reported, on December 6 Russian forces carried out a massive missile- and drone-strike against generation, distribution, and transmission facilities in Ukraine, underscoring the critical importance of cooperation between neighboring energy systems in the current situation.
