They should offer a counter-project cause shrugging legitimate concerns away will only leads to more appeal to this kind of projects.

  2. I’m getting mighty tired of having to vote on whether to commit economical suicide for symbolic anti-immigration laws.

If you want to be poor and ethnically pure so bad, just blow up the road to your village. No one will want to migrate to you if you are poor. You don’t need to do it to the entire country.

Out of pure curiosity – what is the end goal if we don’t cap immigration at some point? Switzerland simply doesn’t have the space or infrastructure to endlessly grow. I understand the economic concerns, but there must be better ways of stabilizing the economy than just bringing more people in, right?

That initiative would be as bad for Switzerland as Brexit has been for UK. If that gets voted I think they will achieve their objective simply by making Switzerland less attractive for future immigrants, and probably many staying here now will consider moving abroad. I know I will

What I don’t get is why this regulation cannot be on the cantonal level especially since residency quotas and decisions already are. All the arguments about infrastructure, housing, and environment overload seem to be highly location-specific and so can be easily controlled by the cantons. Especially since there are some cantons that would want more population.

If the Federal Council wants this initiative to lose, they will have to freeze or even lower the cost of living – by any means necessary. I don’t care about what the HauseigentĂĽmerverband thinks. The increase in apartment rents in the last 20 years is mostly due to immigration.

This sub will simultaneously complain about the lack of jobs then defend high EU immigration.

These initiatives and ideas will be supported so long as Swiss probe struggle to find work on their field whilst watching wealthy foreigners pick up the high paying jobs and push up house prices.

0 immigration isn’t great, but uncontrolled is equally as bad.

  8. Given what the population pyramid of Switzerland looks like the quality of living will not be limited by immigrants taking over the real estate, but by not having anyone to take care of the elderly, and no one contributing to the pension coffers for the older generations to live off

  9. Why i feel like we are being “entertained” by the politics? Its been a veeeryyy long time we had any meaningful votation. Its either an idea with good motivation but too extreme that will be obviously refused, or a shitty useless one without effect but obviously racist or oppressive to a community. Wtf is this puppet show.

  10. Absolute number for me is a bad way. As a percentage or value of per capita growth would be my preferred way

The idea is not per se a bad one. It’s just in a Swiss context, it’s perceived as such. Heck open door countries like Australia and Canada are also drastically limiting immigration but not doing it with an absolute cap. Just recalibrating to both economic needs and housing supply

Ps I’m a non eu immigrant

  11. Is the stupidest of all initiatives, because companies will hire cross border commuters once 10 millions is reached . I already know several that right now commute 3-4 hours each day (France to Fribourg etc). If border commuters become the only way to hire somebody , this will happen, independently from the distance. Some companies may even relocate near the border to get german/french/Italian commuters.

Then the situation on the road and trains will be even more catastrophic.

All those BS initiatives all the time, which do nothing except creating a big hoopla.

I’m sick and tired of these kinds of initiatives.

  13. We don’t need immigrants like we used to. AI will take over most immigrant jobs so we don’t need more people. We should become scarce. Scarcity holds more value. Quality over quantity

  14. this “solution” can only come from svp.. this would create more harm than anything. we could however look into why bug corps are laying off people from here to hire expats that will move here with there whole family just for a job someone else could do.

I’m not sure why this is controversial, like there’s pros and cons. Pros less overpopulation. Cons less workers. I personally don’t think I’d vote for it, but I can see the silver lining.

  16. Actually a pretty good idea, investing all this money on families to balance the population. Also location prices are sky rocketing. Can’t imagine how much it will go up if we have 1M additionnal people (almost 2 cities).

I mean, if things keep going this way our talented workers will just go away. Me included.

I’m sorry for being cautious not only about my future but also our childrens.

  17. I haven’t decided how to vote. The outcome will be interesting. as even an Achtungserfolg would be quite a strong signal and it could very well achieve that.
Personally I had hoped for a Gegenvorschlag since studies like the Chancenbarometer suggest that ca. 2/3 of the Swiss are very worried about a 10 Million CH (including myself, even it’s a symbolic number).

  18. Another of those SVP “lets fuck up the relations with our most important trade partner” ideas.
It is so tiresome, can’t they just shut up and work with the others?

  19. Haven’t read the article, but wouldn’t “almost majority” imply “minority”?
