The President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, said today that early elections will be held next year, either in May or in December.

Appearing on Pink television, he said it was more realistic to expect this to happen at the end of 2026, and that the relevant institutions would decide in due time whether parliamentary and presidential elections would be held on the same day.

“My opponents are waiting for that decision and praying to God that I don’t make it soon,” Vučić said.

He stated that there is almost no possibility of the country entering an armed conflict while he is at its helm, despite what he described as “provocations and lies” coming from the region.

“As long as I am leading Serbia, the chances of us having armed conflicts are very small, almost non-existent, regardless of all the provocations from the region and all the lies, regardless of the military alliances being formed by Pristina, Tirana, Zagreb and others. They do not have enough strength to endanger Serbia,” Vučić told Pink TV.

Vučić reiterated that Serbia is strengthening its army to deter any potential aggressor, not because it is preparing for war.

“Our children are not dying, while someone else’s children are. And someone’s children are preparing to die in the future, preparing for wars. We in Serbia are not preparing for wars; we are strengthening the army to deter everyone,” Vučić said.

Speaking about Serbia’s European integration, Vučić said he was not optimistic about the opening of Cluster 3 (Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth) in negotiations with the European Union by the end of the year.

“It will be good news if it happens. And when the decision comes that it hasn’t happened, it’s better that (the Speaker of Parliament) Ana Brnabić tells you why it didn’t happen,” Vučić added.
