Denmark will significantly scale back its military aid to Ukraine next year, with reports indicating a planned contribution of about $1.5 billion in 2026—nearly half of this year’s $2.6 billion allocation. The decision follows the depletion of Denmark’s special Ukraine Fund and government calls for other European states to assume a larger share of support after what it describes as Denmark’s outsized role since 2022. The shift comes as the EU struggles to finance a reparations loan for Kyiv using frozen Russian assets and amid a $100 million corruption scandal in Ukraine. Some Danish lawmakers argue the cut sends the wrong signal as Ukraine faces worsening battlefield conditions.
