      Just to be clear, I don’t support Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It is a terrible situation and no one should be cheering for it.

      That said, India’s relationship with Russia is rooted in history. When India has faced real security threats, most major Western powers have backed our rivals or stayed quiet. Like in 1971 war, US, UK, and China supported Pakistan, while the Soviet Union was the only major power that actually stood with India. Moments like that leave a long memory in foreign policy

      And India also relies heavily on Russian defense equipments, which you cannot replace overnight. And since India has rarely had reliable allies from the West when things get tense, it values strategic independence and keeps partnerships that have consistently shown up

      So it is not about supporting a war. It is about a nation making decisions based on who was there when it really mattered and doing whatever is in its best interest

      It’s pretty clear that Russia is considered a threat to global peace by many Western countries due to its ongoing war with Ukraine.

      However, to all the people dragging India’s name in this, I want to simply ask, apart from Russia, which other country (in the region or outside) has been a reliable defence partner? Relations were going strong with the US, perhaps the strongest we’ve ever had, until the recent pushing away by the WH.

      With a very recent confilct with Pak, that could’ve turned into a war and China always a risk, India has to carefully manage situations on all fronts.

      Btw, India also, sent various med aid packages to Ukraine while risking it’s existing relations with Russia.

      Countries will always look out for their own benefits because it is their responsibility to guarantee a good future for its citizens.

      Of course, people have the right to trash any country for their decisions (not that it matters), but they must understand that nothing is objectively right or wrong. What’s right for you may not necessarily be right for the other party.

      You simply cannot expect a country to fuck itself over for the sake of other nations, especially nations which *have* had a past of supporting its enemies.

      I really wish American foreign policy would’ve backed India 60 years ago instead of Pakistan… Twice. After they started a war with India and lost both times.

      I’d rather have India as an ally today rather than Pakistan as yet another unreliable middle eastern partner… And quite frankly it’s worse having India mildly dislike us when we could have just chalked up one more Muslim country that hates us to the pile.

      Well India buys Oil from Russia and refines and sells Diesel to Ukraine. Buys weapons from Russia and sells ammo to Ukraine. Russia sells anti air s400 to India and makes the engines for J10 fighter for pakistan. World leaders dont play the games we all play here on reddit

      So much against India but Europe and West did not collectively take any action against China which is the top military and drone supplier for Russia for past 3 years!

      I mean wouldn’t sanctioning China already cripple Russian Military? Plus they still have been buying the oil and have not been sanctioned like Indian.

      Joint drone production, but Russia takes 90% of the drones while India provides 90% of the resources.
