They constantly climb inside dumpsters to find food I think.

I’ve been petting, feeding, caring for stray cats for 30 years now and I’ve never got anything from them. Got scratched, bit etc but never have I got sick or gotten any infections from them.

Ringworm

* You can get ringworm. It’s almost always visible on the cat itself and even if it wasnt, wash your hands well and you should be fine
* Careful from infections from unfortunate scratches. If they bite you, YOU SHOULD ALWAYS GO TO THE HOSPITAL. It can get infected FAST and BAD.
With that being said – it’s safe if you follow these simple rules and I have been doing it for decades, along with thousands of other Cypriots. We are also rabies free.

Just wash your hands after petting a cat or any animal. And if you get bitten or scratched wash the wound well and keep an eye on it.

Cyprus is considered to be rabies free, so I wouldn’t call it “dangerous”.
If you’re scratched or bitten, you’ll need to clean the wound promptly and seek antibiotics, as with cat bites / scratches everywhere in the world.
While there is definitely a risk of flea bites, ringworm &c., I wouldn’t describe those as dangerous per se.
