Drivers in France should be aware of a number of changes to contrôle technique vehicle checks that come into effect on January 1st.
From that date, the vehicle inspection will include a new section dedicated to vehicles subject to serious recall because it has Takata airbags, following difficulties encountered during recall campaigns.
Vehicles equipped with Takata airbags are classified as “stop drive” and must be taken off the road until the airbag has been replaced due to their dangerous nature.

If a vehicle brought for a CT is still equipped with a Takata airbag:
The decree also specifies the rules for vehicles affected by separate “serious” recall campaigns other than Takata airbags: if the vehicle is affected by a recall, the inspection report must mention it and the user must be urged to contact the garage or dealer of the vehicle brand to carry out the necessary repairs.
