In Espírito Santo (Brazil), a district called Saint Anthony of Canaan was long known locally as Heritage of Poles (“Poles’ Estate”).

In 1873, Polish settlers joined an armed protest over broken settlement promises; afterward, dozens of them were moved to the hot valley of the Rio Cinco de Novembro (Baixo Timbuí), where the new colony took that name.

The story also explains why the “official” Polish identity of the region is associated with White Eagle ("white eagle")while Heritage mostly survives in names and local memory. Link (in Polish): The rebels were sent down the river. Patrimônio dos Polacos in Espírito Santo, Brazil
