The first commercial electricity storage park has been connected to the transmission grid and has already fed electricity into it. The facility, located in Naujažerys, in the Kaišiadorys district, has 53.6 megawatts (MW) of installed and 41 MW of permitted generation capacity, as well as 107.3 MWh of capacity. A 50 MW solar park is also connected to it. The park is developed by Vėjo galia, while Lithuanian controller provider, TSPI, has provided the management system.
“This battery park is the first commercial battery system in our network to start trial operation, but we are expecting at least 9 more storage battery projects to start next year,” said Rokas Masiulis, CEO of Litgrid.

Currently, four storage facilities are connected to the transmission network in Lithuania, operated by Energy Cells, a subsidiary of EPSO-G, as is Litgrid. These ensure the provision of an isolated power reserve service and provide limited balancing services.
Including electricity storage facilities connected to the distribution and transmission network, Lithuania has a total installed capacity of 453.9 MW, 317.7 MW of permitted generation capacity, and 461.5 MWh of storage capacity.
