  1. Not going to happen as long as Capita is running recruitment, perhaps we could stop the Russian army by offering Capita to consult for them?

The UK is not really threatened directly by Russia. The issue is that Europe as a whole needs more cooperation and capability and the EU still doesn’t take its defence as seriously as it should.

  3. The truth is, we as Europe need a stronger army. And i think allot of men and woman want to have such a profession, we just need a European standard if we have that we can make it efficient and effective.

We’re not going to win a war by fighting Russia with mass levies of troops. We need better technologies and equipment including better cyber-war assets. We will have to spend more on defence, and work much closer with Europe – the last will be a hard sell to those right if centre, as the US is no longer a reliable ally, and might leave NATO.

  5. hmmmmm ?, who’s sons and daughters exactly ?

what money / privilege based carveouts might there be in this scheme / call to arms exactly

i foresee an outbreak of “bone spurs”

At this point, there’s pretty much has to be intelligence that says Russia is going to invade a NATO nation by whatever date and this is us being prepared as the public.

  7. UK’s top general: “Sons and daughters, get ready to fight Russia.”

    Population: 67M. Active army: 73k.

    Math are not there bro

  8. Whenever I read serious analyses of Russia’s threat to NATO/EU, it tends to predict that the threat will be more along the lines of cybersecurity and infrastructure attacks rather than a conventional army vs army war.

So if you want to tell your population that they might have to be aware and resilient, then fine, but it always seems odd to me that they imply conscription is a possibility.

Hopefully I’m not tempting fate, but it just doesn’t seem like the UK will be forced into that type of total war where wider mobilisation is needed.

  9. Then the UK needs to give them something to fight for. Right now the younger generations have absolutely nothing and no reason to put their lives on the line for problems created by the generations before them.

  10. European citizen’s willingness to actually fight as it relates to territorial integrity of Eastern Ukraine is in single digits

Can’t afford to own a home, can’t afford to eat healthily, can’t afford to heat the rented flat and the water gets a hose pipe ban every summer. But sure, have the blood of ours sons and daughters. Get fucked, send the rich kids first.

  12. Steel not flesh. Did we learn nothing? Does our head of the armed forces need to look at a history book?

I work in a facility that the SAS and MoD use for training. For the last year they have been on site more than actual staff. Do with that what you will.

  14. Forgive me but if Russia is struggling to take on Ukraine, how are the combined forces of NATO in any way concerned?

The biggest worry would be a nuclear strike, but conscription would hardly help us against that.

  15. ToManyTabsOpen on

Russia are struggling to invade a non-NATO country with a military budget 15x smaller than that of the UK.

Unless invaders are literally marching down my street, no thank you. Though I’m probably too old for them to want me anyway.

  17. Can’t wait to see Starmer’s kids on the frontlines!

Maybe give us something worth fighting for before you sign our kids up to the meat grinder?

Reports claim that more than 16500 British millionaires are expected to depart in 2025 – 2026 .
The rich sons and daughters have already started to run .

  19. They need to give us something to fight for

That is, they need to make us realise how different things are going to be once war properly starts. We might not feel a sense of national identity, but most of us have a reasonably comfortable life compared to some less stable parts of the world and that comes with peace. Ironically we need to realise that we need to fight for peace

  20. People of fighting age in the generally don’t agree with the government why would be risk death for this shit swamp

This is mostly UK government justifying more spending on defence. Im all for but I don’t think it should be justified by fear tactics.

Russia has a smaller economy than Italy its taken them years only to push meters in a country that is on its border. They don’t have a working aircraft carrier or much of a navy if I list the things they do have its men and nukes thats it.
Even then the men aren’t trained and we have no idea of the state of the nukes and only thing Russia is good at is pumping out fake news.

  22. 64gbBumFunCannon on

I don’t think I will be ready to fight, actually.

I’ve had a lifetime of this government shafting me at every opportunity. I’ve had a lifetime of broken promises and dashed hopes.

Remind me, why am I fighting for a country that sees me as disposable?

Pretty sure when / if Russia attack, they’ll just hit us with nukes and it won’t matter if you’re ready for a fight or not, at that point.

  23. ObviousKangaroo on

It’s smart to be prepared but realistically how are they gonna invade UK when they’ve been bogged down in Ukraine for years? Maybe things can spiral and they’ll someday pivot away from Ukraine and to another bordering NATO nation and they’ll need to be ready for that.

  24. This is horrible, but, whole nations may be annihilated off the face of the earth before these “sons and daughters” even begin to mobilize in the first minutes of any war of that nature.

If such a war comes, it will be brief, and our sons and daughters will curse us for generations for what we have allowed to happen.

It is good to prepare to dissuade evil, but this would be a war where no one wins, and everyone will lose.

Better get ready to die for the rich man. Remember the same man that made sure you have a place to live and raise a family, and have enough money to put food on the table? Yeah that same man. Now go! Russia bad!

I can’t stop laughing at the thought of this current UK generation of phone-addicted, anxiety-hobbled, and emotionally-fragile young people actually being capable of fighting in a war. lol
