Belgium has officially completed the rollout of the European Train Control System (ETCS) across its 6,399-kilometre main line rail network on 14 December. That makes it only the second country in Europe (after Luxembourg) to achieve this. Infrabel’s €2.8 billion upgrade, a direct response to the 2010 Buizingen train disaster, marks a historic milestone in rail safety and positions Belgium firmly as a leader in European rail digitalisation.
