Kosovo’s Deputy Prime Minister, Besnik Bislimi, announced in a Facebook post that he has received a letter from the European Union’s Director-General for Enlargement, Gert Jan Koopman. The letter informs him of the European Commission’s decision to lift most of the EU measures imposed on Kosovo.

According to Bislimi, this decision opens the door to the implementation of numerous development projects under the IPA programs, strengthening cooperation between Kosovo and the European Union and contributing to the country’s economic and institutional development.

“Today, I received a letter from the EU’s Director-General for Enlargement, Gert Jan Koopman, informing me that the Commission has decided to lift most of the measures against Kosovo. These measures concern projects linked to the IPA programs, with a total value of €34.6 million.

We have continuously insisted on the removal of these measures. We welcome this next step by the EU, which should be followed as soon as possible by their complete removal. There is no longer any reason for some of them to remain in force, especially after the legal and peaceful transfer of power in the four northern municipalities,” he wrote.
