Hypex Bio has announced a new long-term group agreement between Franzefoss Minerals AS and Hypex Bio Norge AS, strengthening it says a shared commitment to lower-emission and more sustainable quarrying operations.
Franzefoss Minerals will transition to Hypex Bio’s hydrogen peroxide-based explosive solutions across multiple quarry and limestone sites in Norway. Hypex Bio says the technology contributes to significantly reduced CO₂ emissions, lower nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, and improved environmental performance compared to conventional explosive products.
“By replacing traditional emulsions with a cleaner alternative, the agreement supports more responsible blasting operations, reduced environmental footprint, and enhanced safety for both people and surrounding ecosystems. The collaboration reflects a joint ambition to align industrial efficiency with climate goals, while meeting strict standards for health, safety, ethics, and environmental responsibility. We look forward to a long and constructive partnership, continuing to develop innovative solutions that support the transition toward a more sustainable mining and quarrying industry.”
Conventional ammonium nitrate explosives release toxic gases harmful to worker health and the environment, requiring costly ventilation and water treatment facilities. Hypex Bio’s hydrogen peroxide-based explosives decompose into water and oxygen, eliminating toxic substances and substantially reducing the need for costly water treatment and ventilation. This enables faster blast cycles and increased efficiency, while ensuring a safer and healthier workplace, as well as a cleaner local environment.
Hypex Bio designs and builds modular hydrogen peroxide emulsion production plants that are cost-effective and easy to operate. It offers a plug-and-play technology platform covering the full lifecycle of blasting operations – production, logistics, loading, blasting and recycling.
