Some valuable things to note:
- Red counties have no coastline at all
- Light blue or cyan counties only have a tidal or estuarine coastline
- And lastly, blue counties have an ocean or sea coastline
I do apologize if some of these seem rather tightly squeezed, especially Letrim, but that’s just me working with the limited space. For the counties with no numbers, I put their numbers as close to the county as possible, and I hope that doesn’t cause any confusion. I can clear up any confusion in the comments if needed

Coastline paradox on its way to ruin your day
I call BS due to Clare’s coastline. It should extend as far as Meelick.
Good map
Suck it Donegal! 😂
Cork wins again
The landlocked counties are all a bit crappy. It’s a curiosity that the coastal zone is also where the mountains are other than the Slieve Blooms which are big hills really.
Kilkenny?
Ok but unfortunately every one is wrong
Being from Leitrim I’ve always been told Leitrim’s coastline is a mile long.
With what length ruler?
As a meath man on the coast, suck it Leitrim!
Coastlines get longer and longer as you measure them in smaller units.
My dad will be happy. He used to tell all and sundry that there was in fact salt water coming up as far as Kilkenny land on the estuary.
Was this measured with a rule or fractals? 😉
Nah am not having Dublin having nearly triple the coastline of Wicklow
Donegal really should annex that Letirim coastline.
Armagh should be cyan
Kilkenny and Limerick are not costal so you may create another map.
For Limerick, where does the Shannon estuary end and the Atlantic begin?
Does this include island coastlines? If so, Carbery’s hundred Isles really helping Cork.
Huh, I should have expected that for Kerry but still.
How’s the weather on the Kilkenny Riviera?
Are islands included?
We have a lot islands here in Galway!
Thank you for this. I notice Mayo has a marginally longer coastline than Donegal and Galway. Did you count the coastline of offshore islands administered by each county or confine your measurements to the mainland?
Mayo runners up again 😭
Tipperary has a tidal estuary on the Suir.
How is Wicklow only 64km?
Galway 1086km of coastlines and sweet feck all nice beaches.
Mayo will be hoping Achill Island doesn’t put in a transfer request..
Any stats that coastline correlates with?
Number of fishermen?
Cork is like the Norway of Ireland with all the fjords
Carragline on top
Cork number one as always 💪
Another win for Cork
