Some valuable things to note:

  • Red counties have no coastline at all
  • Light blue or cyan counties only have a tidal or estuarine coastline
  • And lastly, blue counties have an ocean or sea coastline

I do apologize if some of these seem rather tightly squeezed, especially Letrim, but that’s just me working with the limited space. For the counties with no numbers, I put their numbers as close to the county as possible, and I hope that doesn’t cause any confusion. I can clear up any confusion in the comments if needed

  1. The landlocked counties are all a bit crappy. It’s a curiosity that the coastal zone is also where the mountains are other than the Slieve Blooms which are big hills really.

My dad will be happy. He used to tell all and sundry that there was in fact salt water coming up as far as Kilkenny land on the estuary.

Thank you for this. I notice Mayo has a marginally longer coastline than Donegal and Galway. Did you count the coastline of offshore islands administered by each county or confine your measurements to the mainland?
