The number of electric vehicles (EVs) registered in traffic in Türkiye rose by about 110% year on year to 348,908 as of the end of November, driven by expanding charging infrastructure and shifting consumer preferences.

According to data compiled by the Turkish news agency Anadolu Agency (AA) from the Turkish Statistical Institute, the total number of cars registered in traffic stood at 17,218,442 last month.

EV registrations have climbed sharply over the past decade, supported by the rollout of charging stations and the market entry of Türkiye’s domestic car brand Togg.

The number of EVs on Turkish roads stood at just 565 in 2015. It increased to 165,898 by November 2024 and reached 348,908 as of last month, marking an annual growth rate of about 110%.

As of the end of November, EVs accounted for 2.02% of all registered cars, up from 1.02% a year earlier.

Hybrid registrations also rise

Hybrid vehicle registrations have also continued to increase. Data on hybrids were first recorded in 2011, when just 23 vehicles were registered.

The number rose to 13,877 in 2019, reached 222,328 by the end of 2023, and stood at 391,296 in 2024. As of November, registered hybrid cars totaled 652,752.

Hybrids accounted for 3.8% of all registered cars last month, up from 2.3% at the end of November 2024.

EVs and hybrid vehicles are seen as contributing to lower carbon emissions, improved energy efficiency, and reduced noise pollution compared with conventional fuel-powered cars.
