The European Union stresses the need to deepen cooperation and strengthen the strategic partnership between the Union and the Western Balkans. This is stated in the Declaration of the Joint EU-Western Balkans Summit, which emphasized that the future of the region lies in the European Union and that enlargement is an opportunity that must be seized. The declaration also emphasizes the need for our country to fulfill its obligations.
Comprehensive regional cooperation, reconciliation and good neighborly relations remain essential for building a common future, as well as for the implementation with goodwill and concrete results of international agreements, including the Prespa Agreement with Greece and the Agreement on Friendship, Good Neighborliness and Cooperation with Bulgaria.
At the EU Summit, a message also came from the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa, who emphasized that Macedonia knows what it needs to do.
“As for North Macedonia, we welcome steps to strengthen regional connectivity and hope for real progress in 2026. Its authorities know what they need to do,” said Antonio Costa, President of the European Council.
Prime Minister Mickoski, who participated in the Summit, stated that the Government is undertaking all reforms for membership in the European Union and that the country deserved membership a long time ago, but for artificial reasons it still cannot become part of the EU.
