Montenegro still does not agree to repression of any kind, the Strategy for a European and Civic Montenegro (STEGA) said.
They invited citizens to celebrate the Liberation Day of Podgorica together on December 19th, at 11:55 a.m. on Gorica Hill, at the Monument to the Partisan Fighter.
“Symbolically, from 5 to 12, the citizens will be addressed by journalist and publicist Danilo Daro Burzan, historian Jadranka Selhanović, political science student Tamara Đurković and history professor Igor Radulović. A wreath will be laid at the monument to the Partisan fighter on behalf of the association by academician of CANU Slobodan Backović, professor Dr. Branislav Radulović and STEGA Secretary General Dragana Sekulić. After the appropriate program, director Danilo Marunović will speak,” the statement reads.
STEGA called on citizens to send a message from Gorica, “together from 5 to 12”, that Montenegro does not agree to repression of any kind even today and that with its head held high, it “proudly stands on the red line of defense” of free speech and free citizens, anti-fascism and fundamental human rights, thereby defending the memory of Montenegrin anti-fascists and “fighters who provided us with life, freedom and state 80 years ago.”
“Join the group of 35 prosecuted citizens and be part of history, freedom and honor. See you at 5 to 12 in Gorica, on the red line,” the statement reads.
The Police Directorate recently announced that 35 participants of the July 8th rally in front of the Villa “Gorica” in Podgorica, held in protest of the awarding of the July 13th Prize to writer Bećir Vuković, were prosecuted for misdemeanors. On that day, they said, there was a violation of public order and peace and active attacks on police officers by the crowd.
