The Pension and Disability Insurance (PIO) Funds of Montenegro and North Macedonia have agreed to continue cooperation with the aim of improving the system and in the interest of beneficiaries in both countries.

At the meeting of their representatives in Podgorica, it was assessed that the goal of the meeting was to continue the cooperation initiated in February this year by signing the Protocol on Electronic Data Exchange in the Field of Pension and Disability Insurance.

The focus of the conversation was on the further implementation of the social security agreement between the two countries, the implementation of the signed Protocol, and the improvement of electronic data exchange.

“During the meeting, statistical and financial data were exchanged on the number of beneficiaries and benefits paid for this year to beneficiaries who exercise their rights in one country and have their residence in another,” the statement said.

Representatives of the Pension and Disability Insurance Fund of Montenegro announced that as of January 1st of next year, the implementation of the agreements with North Macedonia, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina will be transferred to the jurisdiction of regional units, according to the place of last insurance.

“At the meeting, satisfaction was expressed with the cooperation so far and the agreements reached, emphasizing that the talks took place in a constructive and friendly atmosphere, with a shared commitment to further improving the system, all in the interest of pension and disability insurance beneficiaries in both countries,” the statement concluded.
