What am I supposed to even seeing here?

Edit: Nevermind, saw it, those North Sea coastlines Jesus Christ

  2. I swear, every single map from Eastern European countries tries to explain why their country is actually not Eastern European but actually Central European (and why their easternmost neighbours aren’t).

I am yet to finally find the map that shows Europe divided into just “Western Europe” and “Central Europe”

  3. I’m from Romania and this the first time in my life seeing this map.
We are not in central Europe, I don’t know tho tf is creating this kind of “maps”

Slightly off topic but Romania is the only Balkan country that managed to make its greater version of itself reality in terms of territory. Bulgaria and Serbia tried but didn’t work out. I guess there’s still the area in Ukraine and Moldova that Romanian nationalists want but all in all it’s the biggest country in the Balkan Peninsula and medium sized in territory/population.

  5. Very convenient to forget that the Black Sea is considered a geographical limit of Europe, just the same as the Ural Mountain or the Atlantic Ocean

  6. Can’t we just all be Europe? As a Portuguese guy, my country is western, southern and also surprisingly eastern Europe all at the same time 😵‍💫

  7. I love this stuff. Country insecurities.

    – Argentina is white
    – Argentina is a big country
    – Romania is in Central Europe

I’ve heard a couple of Peruvians be way too excited about potential German heritage. But don’t know if that’s a pattern yet. We had a Peruvian girl in university who looked like Pocahontas talking about her German heritage from Munich at every chance LOL

With Russia containing close to 50% of the European landmass, surely any country just west of it is pretty much central Europe.

  9. Guys Romania isnt Central Europe

They aren’t Eastern Europe either they have already been claimed by the Balkans

  10. Literally no one here in Romania says that we are central european, every romanian you ask would either tell you eastern european, or south-eastern european. We don’t have the same complex that Visegrad countries have.

[Geographic center in Europe](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Geographical_midpoint_of_Europe) is actually not far from Romania, and one of the studies has it at the border of Romania with Ukraine.

If you draw a reasonable size circle around that point Romania is one of the few countries within it. Even in the other points, if you drew a reasonable circle, Romania still has a good amount of territory inside the Central European circle.

The problem is that the “true center” of Europe and the “political center” are not the same thing.

  12. We tend to confuse political, economical, cultural constructs with geographical ones imo. From a geographical pov, Romania is as central as it gets in the european continent. Other classifications place it either in easter eu, southeastern eu, etc…

Either way, think we should cut back on the classifications and see ourselves part of a bigger thing, just like many of the ppl commenting here already stated…

  13. I’m not sure what this map is and where does it come from but I don’t think Romanians have the same complex as poles, czechs and slovaks about being central europeans. Every romanian I know agrees that Romania is either in the eastern or southeastern Europe 😅
