Circles of Slovenian Railways

As someone who uses the trains every week in our small country, I would like to comment on the signs to the new temporary platforms in Ljubljana. The yellow and green circles on the floor are supposed to guide you to the right location. Supposedly. And you really?

I first learned about this type of labeling through a post on Facebook. I wonder if they actually added some clear notices in several places at the main station – in Slovenian and English – that would explain to people how to find their way around. It is true that the information is published on the Slovenian Railways website, but… what if you are an elderly lady who is traveling to Ljubljana again for a trip after a long time? What if you can’t find the right platform because of bad markings? Possibly miss the train? If possible, your journey to the platform will be extended by an additional 15 minutes of walking, but do you find it difficult to walk quickly?

Today I witnessed how a 20-year-old tourist got lost and missed her train. She had a phone. She had Google Maps. If she is lost, how is someone who is less digital or less skilled going to find herself? It really wouldn’t be difficult to post simple, plasticized notices with clear instructions in several prominent places where the main bus and train stations have the highest traffic.

Not to mention that the orbs on the floor have already faded after only five days… I am attaching evidence of these “excellent” markings as of today. Really great tag.

It is not a problem to get used to the change if you regularly visit these stations. The problem is if you are there for the first time after a long time or on a trip and you don’t have time to wait for information to explain new routes.

Recommendation for tourists? Bring a magnifying glass with you to make it easier to follow the green remains on the ground.
