I am a big fan of Pöschl’s Gletscherprise snuff and I have bought it in Berlin earlier this year.

Today, a friend went to Hamburg and promised to pick some up for me, but it being told that it is illegal in Germany in several shops.

Is this true and, if so, did it get illegal recently?

Snus is technically illegal, snuff ist not. However gr m my experience snuff ist much les Common in the north than in the south, so maybe the got them mixed up

  2. so depending on what your friend asked there might have been some confusion. “Snuff” sounds quite similar to “Snus” (the nicotine pouches) which are afaik illegal. What you are looking for should be “Schnupftabak” (sniffing tobacco) which is a Bavarian staple and definitely not illegal

  3. I lived in the town where they make these and worked about 200m away from the factory. When they cleaned out their machinery every friday, the whole commercial district smelled like menthol and tobacco.

  4. We used to shoot snuff up our noses back in school (during catholic religion lessons), using a self-built snuff- machine of a buddy’s grandad.

The sensation was totally insane. Due to the menthol oils, it felt like one’s skull would explode. The tobacco however made you somehow dizzy. In the end it was like being completely wasted. Even half an hour later I felt like walking around totally shit-faced.

Nowadays, I wouldn’t even dare to touch that stuff. What you’ll get out of your nose later is absolutely disgusting.

To answer your question: Snuff (as in _Schnupftabak_) ist legal in Germany. You can buy it in tobacco stores and most supermarkets.

Maybe it’s the particular menthol flavour? Just guessing here since I still remember when they banned the menthol cigarettes.
