The European Union (EU) can admit Montenegro without changing its decision-making methods, Montenegrin President Jakov Milatović told Politiko magazine.
“The goal is clear, full membership by 2028,” Milatović emphasized.
A statement from the Public Relations Office of the President of Montenegro states that Milatović spoke to Politiko magazine during his stay in Brussels on the occasion of the EU-Western Balkans Summit.
Milatović also stated that he expects the drafting of the Accession Treaty to begin.
“Montenegro is the most advanced candidate country for EU membership and we expect to be the 28th member in 2028. The EU had 28 members before Brexit, and after Montenegro’s accession there will be 28 again, so no internal reform of the Union is needed for us to become a member,” said Milatović.
