The map colours all the UK and Ireland in for Aldi but while it exists in mainland GB and in the Republic of Ireland. There is no Aldi in Northern Ireland.
We do have a Lidl though.

I live in the UK but have family back in Ukraine and during one catch up on the phone they said they were getting a Lidl soon but didn’t know what it was. We LOVE Lidl so raved to them about it, and then the war happened and they didn’t get a Lidl.

Carrefour also sold the Italian branch earlier this year, the brand will be entirely dismissed by 2028.

Walmarts are ubiquitous in USA. I’ve heard of Lidl and Aldi, tho IDK if there are any near me. (Looked it up: 2 Aldi’s within driving distance but further than I would go, Lidl on the East coast but may be coming near here) The other(s), no.

Over here in Greece we pronounce “carrefour” as “karfur” sometimes!
Just a fun detail

We have Carrefour in Brazil. They’ve had some bad rep for prejudice and racism against clients and bad labor practices.
We had Walmart too but they failed in Brazil

Kaufland also exists in Austria btw

Used to be a carrefour in the metrocentre but that’s the only one I know of in the UK. Pretty sure the UK has never had a Walmart 🤔

Only Lidl. Rarely shop there as their selection is a bit more limited. However I like their non food things, like Parkside branded tools.

Is getting a Lidl a precondition of joining the EU or something?
Edit: ah nvm, Malta got in without it

Mildly funny that the northernmost Aldi is an Aldi Sud in Macduff Scotland, and the southernmost Aldi is an Aldi Nord in Algecrias on the southern tip of Spain.

Wish we had Carrefour
Aldi closed all stores in Denmark few years (2?) ago. Little outdated :p
Aldi (süd) is actually called Hofer in Austria and Slovenia
I live in New York. We have Aldi’s and lidl, both pretty awesome stores. We also have Walmart.
Curious as to why Norway doesn’t have Lidls anymore.
I know Walmart failed in europe due to a combination of getting the concept wrong, and trying to ignore labour laws.
What about Spar?
Feels like every town in the UK has an Aldi or a Lidl now.
What’s the European Walmart equivalent?
Kaufland ecommerce is also in Italy
No Walmart and Aldi Sud
What caused Walmart to depart the European market?
Yes, we do have Carrefour and Walmart in Brazil.
Aldi closed in Denmark:///
Amazing supermarket, I always loved the cheap german brands, way better than our own.
The map is wrong there used to be a carrefour in Macedonia for a few years. I don’t remember many people shopping there so the markets disappeared.
