  1. From the article

The pressure is already forcing young people to rethink what it takes to stand out—especially in fields where six-figure pay once felt like a given. But for those aiming for Wall Street, one Goldman Sachs executive has a blunt message for young professionals trying to get ahead: Know what you bring to the table.

“Think about one’s role and how that fits into the broader business environment,” David Kostin, Goldman Sachs’ chief U.S. equity strategist, said on the Goldman Sachs’ Exchanges podcast.

“If you understand where you sit and your contributions to the commercial process, then you can see how that changes over time.”

As AI-powered automation replaces jobs at a fraction of the cost of human labor, understanding the value of your own skills—and whether tools like ChatGPT can outperform them—has never been more critical. Investing in the development of in-demand skills may well determine whether you remain employable in the future

  2. Well, the article is scary and has the common tone of “apocalypse” required to catch readers attention.

The point is the same of last generations, with an only change – which is not stupid of course – in the speed of the technological progress.

Don’t see AI as a negative force is the key to understand how to master it.

  3. It’s a very genteel way to say “prepare for lower standards of living than your parents had thanks to ai.”

Yes Gen Z should know exactly what they bring to the table – the ability to bring the economy to a halt. Organize, protest, and end these parasites sucking the country dry.

  5. Some jobs that may stay safe from AI are related to various sort of sensitive information, state or trade secrets, processing important personal data, that is risky to feed to the AI. Which sucks, because working with such information means you are restricted in many other ways, like travelling, socialising.

  6. What the vast majority of those boardroom execs usually bring to the table is social connections to other wealthy and powerful people, not skills you learn from a degree. Not to be that elderly grandpa, but Gen Z seems to lack a lot of IRL social skills.

  7. Kostin is retiring after 3 decades at GS, and I can honestly say that I have no idea what he ever brought to the table (except some idea of what consensus thinking looks like).

  8. What a dumbass thing to say. It’s the exact canned “advice” the young workforce has been getting for decades.

  9. ‘jobpocalypse’ is the most awkward word Ive seen in a headline. I had to repeat it in my head 4 times trying to make it sound right

They bring enough votes to tax him at 200% and throw him in jail if he tries to dodge them.
