Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ervin Ibrahimović and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two ministries in the field of consular affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced.
It is stated that the Memorandum was signed during Ibrahimović’s official visit to Azerbaijan, adding that it established an additional institutional framework for improving cooperation and providing better quality services to the citizens of the two countries.
The Ministry said that the meeting between Ibrahimović and Bajramović confirmed that the relations between Montenegro and Azerbaijan are of very high quality, partnership-based and friendly, and that they are continuously improving through substantive cooperation in all areas of common interest.
“The interlocutors pointed out the importance of frequent political dialogue, which will be further intensified by the implementation of the announced high-level and highest-level visits in the coming period,” the statement said.
The Ministry said that Ibrahimović and Bajramov signed a Memorandum of Cooperation between the two ministries in the field of consular affairs.
“This established an additional institutional framework for improving cooperation and providing better quality services to the citizens of the two countries,” the statement said.
As stated, the meeting paid special attention to strengthening cooperation in the field of energy, as well as concluding appropriate agreements and organizing expert meetings, especially in the areas of gas supply and renewable energy sources.
“The further development of economic cooperation, which is highly positioned on the agenda of bilateral relations, was also discussed, with the conclusion that there is significant room for increasing the volume of trade and direct investments,” the statement said.
As announced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ibrahimović also spoke with the Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahib Gafarova.
“During the conversation, the importance of parliamentary diplomacy and intensifying cooperation between legislative bodies was emphasized, with confirmation of mutual commitment to fostering friendly relations and further strengthening overall cooperation between the two countries,” the statement said.
It is added that Ibrahimović discussed with the Prime Minister of Azerbaijan the improvement of bilateral relations, with particular emphasis on economic projects, investments, energy and infrastructure.
“Montenegro remains a reliable partner and strongly committed to developing stable and long-term relations with Azerbaijan,” Ibrahimović stressed.
As announced by the Ministry, Ibrahimović used his official visit to Azerbaijan to meet with the Minister of Finance of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Co-Chairman of the Mixed Commission for Economic Cooperation between Montenegro and the Republic of Azerbaijan, Sahil Babayev.
“On that occasion, the readiness to strengthen the work of the Commission and further concretize cooperation in the areas of investment, tourism and finance was emphasized,” the statement said.
As it is added, the need for stronger promotion of Montenegro’s tourism potential on the Azerbaijani market was particularly emphasized, with the aim of increasing tourist traffic.
“Ibrahimović informed his interlocutors that Montenegro is ambitiously fulfilling the set goals, with the intention of closing all negotiation chapters by the end of 2026 and becoming a full member of the European Union by 2028,” the statement said.
It is reported that during his stay in Baku, Ibrahimović laid wreaths at the monument dedicated to Victory Day, as well as at the Eternal Flame in the Alley of Martyrs, paying tribute to the victims and the historical heritage of Azerbaijan.
