  1. Last weekend I went to the desert with a couple friends to photograph the Geminids Meteor Shower. This one lived up to the hype and ended up being the best meteor shower I’ve seen. It also marked my first time capturing bolide meteors (ones that explode in the atmosphere) on camera. One is at the top of the frame, and the other is right in between pollux and castor (center).

To create this image I captured 140 meteors on camera. I didn’t use a sky tracker, so rotated my camera every 30 minutes to keep the same sky framing. I loaded each image into photoshop, aligned the stars, and then blended in the meteros. In total, I included 90 meteors. The result is this fun shot of the meteor shower radiant, which is where all the meteors seems to originate from. Every year the earth smashes into the same asteroid debris with its velocity vector pointed at the Gemini constellation, hence why the radiant comes from there every year.
