No longer 4,810 metres, the historic figure that entire generations have learned in geography books. The "Roof of Europe" he is changing his face and, above all, his height. According to the latest findings from the Italian-French scientific mission, the summit of Mont Blanc is today set at 4,807.3 metres. A figure that does not just represent a number, but a clear signal of the impact of global warming even on the highest altitudes of the continent
To obtain this measurement with millimeter precision, the team used a cutting-edge technological arsenal: drones, remote sensing and ground penetrating radar. These analyzes made it possible to look "within" the summit, revealing that beneath the frozen surface lies a thickness of snow and ice of around 20-25 metres. The real rocky summit of the mountain is in fact located much lower, at an altitude of 4,786 metres.

Non capisco il senso onestamente. Se ci sono 20 metri di ghiaccio e misuri prima della stagione fredda mi pare normale sia più basso o quantomeno bisognerebbe sapere in che stagione fu misurato per decretare l’altezza storica.
