During the solstice and Christmas, Rīga invites you to enjoy a diverse festive program – concerts in concert halls and churches, winter solstice traditions in Old Town, creative workshops, and events for families with children.
December 19th, 18:30-20:00 | Town Hall Square (Rātslaukums)
Bluķa vakars (traditional log-pulling night) offers the opportunity to experience winter solstice traditions in the heart of Old Riga. The program includes lighting a bonfire, ritual activities, dancing and singing, as well as a masked parade through the streets of Old Riga together with folklore groups from Riga and other regions of Latvia.

At 11:00 and 14:00, the event “A Christmas Fairy Tale” will introduce children to holiday traditions through games, songs, and stories. Intended for families with children aged 3 to 10.
The exhibition “Christmas Fairy Tale” (until January 11th) reveals early 20th century Christmas traditions, interiors, and historical holiday decorations.
December 21st, 12:00-20:00 | M/Darbnīca, Aristida Briāna Street 9
The Budēļu Carnival will invite you to learn about Latvian Christmas traditions throughout the day. The event will feature an authentic Budēļu mask workshop led by textile artist Emma Sofija, a solstice feast, games, dances, and a festive bonfire. The program also includes a concert by the vocal ensemble “Kalmes,” log pulling, and a community Budēļu parade in collaboration with the cultural bar “Labietis” and Miera Street Republic. The evening will conclude with a concert by the group “Zāle.” Admission is free, participation in the mask workshop is €5.

- December 17th at 7:00 p.m., concert “The Meeting” (mixed choir “Sonante”)
- December 20th at 4:00 p.m., concert “Winter Sparkles”
- December 21st at 4:00 p.m., concert “This Strange Feeling”
- December 22nd at 7:00 p.m., concert “Before Christmas”
- December 25th, 2:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. concert “Christmas Spirit”

December 21st, 7:00 p.m. Fourth Advent concert with singer Annika Lanka in the historic Old Town concert hall.

Concerts by the group “Sigma” and the youth choir “Balsis,” offering meditative and contemporary sounds in a sacred setting.
Bastejkalna Park (December 21st; 3:00-3:45 p.m.) and Līvu Square (December 24th; 12:00-12:45 p.m.)
The Dixieland band “Sunny Groove Dixie” will perform their concert program “Čiekurs Čikijs” with special surprises for young listeners.
