COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Malachi Toney’s tiebreaking 11-yard touchdown reception with less than two minutes left lifted No. 10 seed Miami to a 10-3 win over No. 7 Texas A&M in the College Football Playoff. Mark Fletcher Jr. had a career-high 172 yards rushing to help the Hurricanes (11-2) advance to the Cotton Bowl to face No. 2 seed Ohio State on Dec. 31.

COLLEGE STATION, Texas (AP) — Miami brought a nasty defense into Texas A&M Saturday to down the seventh-seeded Aggies in the College Football Playoff. The No. 10 seed Hurricanes forced Marcel Reed into three turnovers and sacked him seven times in the 10-3 victory. “The defense was off the charts the entire day,” coach Mario Cristobal said. They move on to face No. 2 Ohio State in the Cotton Bowl on New Year’s Eve.

NEW YORK (AP) — Christian Anderson scored 23 of his 27 points in the second half, including the tiebreaking free throw with 3.4 seconds left, and No. 19 Texas Tech rallied from 17 down to beat third-ranked Duke 82-81 at Madison Square Garden. Anderson was fouled by Caleb Foster and made the front end of a 1-and-1 before missing his second attempt. Isaiah Evans grabbed the rebound with 1.6 seconds remaining, and Duke called a timeout to set up a play. Foster inbounded near the Texas Tech bench, but Cameron Boozer’s 3-point try bounced off the rim — and the shot might have come just after the final horn, anyway.

NEW YORK (AP) — Every number on the scoreboard and every line on the stat sheet indicated No. 19 Texas Tech was in serious trouble. LeJuan Watts had already fouled out, JT Toppin was one whistle away and the Red Raiders were trying to climb all the way out of a 17-point hole against undefeated Duke, the third-ranked team in the country. But those roadblocks hardly fazed Christian Anderson and his determined teammates. Anderson scored 23 of his 27 points in the second half, including the tiebreaking free throw with 3.4 seconds left, and Texas Tech stormed back for an impressive 82-81 victory Saturday night before a sellout crowd at Madison Square Garden.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (AP) — Dallin Hall scored a season-high 20 points, Jacari White had a spectacular dunk and scored 15, and No. 23 Virginia beat Maryland 80-72. It was the first meeting since 2018 between the former Atlantic Coast Conference rivals. Hall went 8 of 8 from the field for the Cavaliers, and Devin Tillis added 10 points on 4-of-4 shooting. Virginia’s leading scorer, Thijs De Ridder, was held to five points on 1-of-8 shooting. David Coit led Maryland with 15 points and Myles Rice added 12.

ATLANTA (AP) — Henri Veesaar dunked in the winning basket with 7.2 seconds remaining off an impromptu pass from stumbling Seth Trimble, and No. 12 North Carolina held off Ohio State 71-70. Trimble was playing his first game since breaking his left forearm in a Nov. 9 training mishap. He wanted to shoot but tripped as he spun into the lane. As the senior guard was falling, he dished the ball to Veesaar for the emphatic slam. Ohio State had the ball last, but John Mobley Jr. missed a 3-point try and Devin Royal’s putback was blocked at the horn.
