During Sunday’s episode of ‘Flasim’, Prime Minister Edi Rama strongly criticized the Albanian justice system, focusing on the Special Prosecution against Corruption (SPAK) recent request to Parliament for the suspension and arrest of Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku.
Rama questioned why prosecutors rushed to seek extreme measures without waiting for the Constitutional Court’s ruling scheduled for January 22. He argued that in a state governed by the rule of law, justice should deliberate calmly rather than act hastily, avoiding confrontations between independent powers.
“Justice does not run, justice judges,” Rama emphasized, underscoring his view that SPAK’s actions were premature and undemocratic.
The Prime Minister made clear that the governing majority will not review SPAK’s request until the Constitutional Court has completed its process. He also referred to reports from the Council of Europe, noting that such measures must be examined with caution and not imposed before the ongoing constitutional proceedings are finalized.
Rama concluded by stating that he will continue to study and analyze what he described as “symptoms of brutality” in the exercise of judicial power, promising to provide a more comprehensive response in due time.
