After 5 months of coding, and a trip back from Kosova, I’m finally done my app FOL GEG

Hello everyone

I wanted to share an app I created, which I made because the tool I was looking for didn’t exist. I had to figure out how to code in order to make it real, but I never planned on originally releasing it . Once I started working through some of the features though, it was clear that this would be useful to more than just myself .

Our diaspora is huge. I’m born in Canada but my family is from Kosova. I can’t tell you how many Albanians I’ve met, young and old who do not speak a single word of Albanian. I want my brothers and sisters to understand shqip, and more specifically, the geg dialect – so when they return to the motherland , they can feel that way . (Edhe per mu, qe 2 vjet ja kom nis do mesime per shqip . Ama ma shumti qka I mesojsha u kon n Tosk (gegnishtja koka si dukat n bjeshk , zorr mu gjet..))

This app gives you a word everyday, automatically. When you add the app’s widget to the lockscreen, it will show the current word, and refresh at midnight. It has a filter for phrases, nouns, verbs etc., if you want to focus on one category. You can also favourite the word by double tapping it, and access them in the lexicon at any time. The concept is that, since we look at our phones so many times a day, the repetition of seeing it will give you a better opportunity to remember the word easier.
