Pierce Brosnan Calls Netflix-WBD Merger “Unsettling”: “To have one dominant force that colors what we see, how, and where is a change that doesn’t feel culturally right. I love cinema and I’ve seen cinemas evaporate from the landscape. Netflix has given me employment, but you have to be diligent.”

It was a damned if you do, damned if you don’t situation. Had Paramount gotten it, we would have to worry about additional government influence, especially since the takeover was backed by the Saudis and Trump’s son in law.
We’re all so greatful for brosnans opinion on the matter. Why do we need to keep getting those headlines? A random media person shares personal opinion.
Theater attendance is about half of what it was in 2002. You can’t blame all of it on streaming apps and convenience. I feel it’s more like cable companies complaining when people were chord cutting. Theaters need to find a way to adapt or die like any other business.
I mean, this level of control is happening across every spectrum of society, it’s the end game of late stage capatlism and globalization.
Here’s what’s going to happen: Netflix buys WBD —> Netflix makes deal with OpenAI —> Netflix feeds IP to AI —> Endless AI slop and basically no more creative or technical jobs in the entertainment industry.
The film industry needs lots of little and mid-sized independent studios.
Pierce Brosnan being worried about a media empire influencing opinions?
[Might make a good movie.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tomorrow_Never_Dies)
I’ve got some bad news for him…..
I have a hard time understanding people’s beef with Netflix. I’ve had a subscription with them for 20+ years, and they’ve always had extremely responsive customer service, offer the best movies/shows WHEN THEY CAN, and the app is easy to use and very light. It’s a good company, and I’m glad they’re joining up with WB, instead of WB giving into a fascist regime’s state sponsored shitshow.
