Debate on New Law for Confiscation and Management of Stolen Assets Advances in Bosnia and HerzegovinaSkopje, North Macedonia – September 5, 2025– The United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) was honored with a Certificate of Appreciation from the Ministry of Interior of North Macedonia during a ceremony held to mark the International Day of Police Cooperation on 7 September. The recognition underscores UNODC’s sustained partnership with national authorities to strengthen responses to transnational organized crime, enhance border security, and advance trust-based information sharing among law-enforcement agencies.

Established by a United Nations resolution in 2022, the International Day of Police Cooperation reinforces a simple truth: lasting security is possible only through joint action, global collaboration, and timely exchange of information. Speaking at the event, Minister of Interior Panche Toshkovski emphasized that contemporary threats—organized crime, terrorism, cybercrime, and the trafficking of persons and drugs—do not respect borders and cannot be addressed through isolated efforts. He highlighted the importance of coordinated action, stable partnerships, and practical mechanisms enabling an effective, rapid response.

UNODC’s cooperation with the Ministry of Interior and the Bureau for Public Security has focused on strengthening operational capacities, promoting international and regional cooperation, and supporting victim-centred and rule-of-law-based approaches. Through joint work with partner services across the region and Europe—ranging from information exchange to joint operations and analyses—these efforts contribute to national and regional stability while affirming the country’s role as a reliable partner in international security cooperation.

The ceremony served as a timely reminder that the safety of citizens depends on collective readiness to cooperate, share, and act together—principles at the core of UNODC’s mandate and everyday engagement with law-enforcement partners worldwide.
