The Meteorological Office is forecasting rather mixed weather conditions over the Christmas period.

For those planning to spend Christmas Eve outdoors, the weather is expected to be pleasant in the morning but will change later in the day.

On Wednesday, conditions are forecast to be mostly sunny, with temperatures reaching 18°C. As the day progresses, cloud cover is expected to increase, with Christmas night, between Wednesday and Thursday, possibly bringing showers that could be thundery and even accompanied by hail. Overnight temperatures are expected to drop to 12°C.

Christmas Day is expected to dawn rather cloudy, with the possibility of further isolated showers. The highest temperature is forecast to reach 18°C, meaning that this year’s Christmas is expected to be 5°C warmer than last year’s. Evening temperatures are expected to fall to 12°C.

Over the past ten years, the warmest Christmas was recorded in 2022, with a temperature of 20.7°C, while the coldest Christmas occurred in 2024, when daytime temperatures dropped to 13.6°C.

For those who are off work on the day after Christmas and planning to spend Boxing Day outdoors, conditions are expected to be favourable. The Meteorological Office is forecasting partly cloudy weather, with temperatures reaching 19°C and dropping to 13°C in the evening.

Windy conditions are also expected to characterise the Christmas period. From Christmas Eve, winds are forecast to be moderate to rather strong (Force 4-5), varying between southwest and south-southwest. Winds are expected to strengthen further on Friday evening, reaching Force 5 to 6.
