The EU said on Monday that the 27-nation bloc stands in “full solidarity” with member state Denmark after the United States appointed an envoy for Greenland, which is a Danish territory.

“Territorial integrity and sovereignty are fundamental principles of international law,” said European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and European Council President Antonio Costa at the X.

“These principles are essential not only for the European Union, but also for nations around the world. We stand in full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland,” they said.

US President Donald Trump named Louisiana Governor Jeff Landry (R) as his special envoy for Greenland on Sunday, after the president repeatedly expressed interest in purchasing the autonomous territory earlier this year.

Trump said on Social Truth that Landry “understands how essential Greenland is to our National Security and will strongly advance our Country’s Interests for the Safety, Survival and Security of our Allies, and indeed, the World.”

On the other hand, Landry himself has stated that it is an honor to serve in a “volunteer position to make Greenland part of the US.” /Telegraph/
