Over at Hilltop Restaurant Mellieħa, a brand-new Maltese record has been set, and it’s making waves. The largest nativity scene made entirely from seashells now officially measures 3.32 metres long, 68cm deep, and 1 metre high, featuring 200 shepherds and 1,461 seashells.

The feat was achieved by Brian Vella, the restaurant owner, and Anthony Cutajar (aka Ninu Spejku), who spent around two years crafting the intricate display. Fun fact: the seashells used aren’t just any shells, they’re the same ones left behind by customers after enjoying their meals. Talk about recycling with style!

The public is invited to check out the nativity scene at Hilltop Restaurant, and those feeling generous can leave a donation for Caritas while enjoying the festive display.

It’s big, it’s beautiful, and it’s officially record-breaking Maltese creativity.
