  1. Stop buying shit you can’t touch, walk out of the store with, and easily return if it’s not correct. Scamazon doesn’t care about counterfeit products.

  2. Another article that’s reported based on a Reddit post that I read already. This is getting out of hand. We’re the only source for many of these websites now is a Reddit post.

The wild thing is – if DDR4 and DDR5 were physically keyed the same, scammers could probably get away with this shit. But they aren’t. So what they’re selling literally *will not fit* so they’re gonna get caught almost every time.

  4. Amazon is a pretty bad place to show for PC parts IMO.

Even apart from all the fake products and scams, it’s just hard to find what you’re looking for. If you search for something like AM5 motherboard, you’ll get all kinds of crap including Intel motherboards or AM4 motherboards.

It’s sometimes OK if you know the exact model you want of something and are getting the best price. But if you’re shopping and trying to find different comparable options it can be a huge mess over using more dedicated computer parts stores that specialize in those types of products. They often don’t have the best price either.

Where do you even buy parts these days? Newegg sucks now, Amazon has a better return policy but tons of return fraud, and Microcenter is nowhere near me.

The title of this post sounds like a riddle told by a bridge troll wearing a zip up hoodie and a backpack

It’s becoming more and more common to get shit different from what you ordered on Amazon.

    Enshittification

  8. Amazon is shite. Do your best to buy ANYWHERE else. Be careful even on eBay. Last week I bought something on eBay that I thought was a small business. Turned out to be fulfilled by Amazon. Fuck Jeff Bezos.

  9. I think there is a flash memory shortage too? Can’t wait to open an SSD and find it wired to a Micro SD card

Really, you don’t say? Scammed on Amazon? Home of such prestigious brands as Xheneauduesud, Ooosuelosys, FattyDove, ShenzhenGoatPorker and of course totallynotachinesescampromise. Colour me shocked. Next you’re gonna tell me there’s an entire country whose culture revolves around making things as cheaply as possible, intellectual property theft, patent infringement and scamming people out of money. 🙄

  11. This is most likely return fraud. I work for a company that takes in and grades Amazon returns, and it wouldn’t surprise me if an employee didn’t realize the swap occurred. We inform Amazon of fraud if we find it, but sometimes it’s not so easy.

For example, we have to wipe all PCs/Laptops/Drives with special software before it can be resold, and I once discovered a 4TB NVMe that was actually 1TB. I only noticed because it came up as 1TB in the software, and the serial number on the sticker was different. I then noticed that there was a small crease on one of the sides of the sticker where they had pulled it off to make the swap.

There are probably tons of products that get through just due to the amount of training that would be required to catch every single type of fraud that could exist.

  12. I just had this happen to me, but on ebay.

I did get my money back, but now I won’t get my new RAM for the few free days I had during the holidays.

I refuse to send a single dollar to Amazon after being scammed one too many times, its not any safer to use Amazon over Temu, AliExpress or ebay, so why not save my self a few $ just by not using Amazon.

And when it comes to refunds, its basically not much different with Temu, AliExpress or Ebay, so why not?

Is Amazon more convenient? Absolutely, but you are paying a very high premium for it.
