  1. defamation litigation may be one of the few ways to bring AI under control. there are no section 230 protections for something a service itself generates

  2. >Google Canada spokesperson Wendy Manton issued a statement saying Google’s “AI overviews” are frequently changing to show what she described as the most “helpful” information.

Oh yeah, falsely accusing a known artist of SEXUALLY ASSAULTING MINORS certainly is “helpful.”

F- Google, and F- AI. Imagine this happening to someone who doesn’t have social clout to protect them from these kind of damming false accusations? Are we really going to surrender all decision making and critical thinking to freaking Google?!!

I’m so viscerally upset by this, Jesus Christ.

  3. I’m just happy to hear Ashley MacIsaac still plays. “Sleepy Maggie” is one of my favorite tracks from the 90s.

Naturally, rather than any sort of apology or compensation, Google basically comes out and says “yeah, it’ll do that”.

  5. >The Juno Award-winning musician said he learned of the online misinformation last week after a First Nation north of Halifax confronted him with the summary and cancelled a concert planned for Dec. 19.

Canceled an artist based on just the summary? They could have atleast checked the sources links that would have probably lead to nowhere as most of Google AIs sources links do.

AI feels like Trump and Co. lol. Literally no consequences for any shit they pull, only rewards.

  7. Best part of this article is the end where it says “actually, he is a sex offender because he flashed reporters”

  8. Imagine flying somewhere with your fiddle, getting questioned at customs, mentioning to the agent that you are a fiddler, he thinks that sounds neat, googles your name and you’re in one of the most awkward situations imaginable.

    “I’m a fiddler, NOT a diddler!”
