Firefighters contained the roughly 1.6 ha (4 acres) blaze before midnight, allowing officials to lift evacuation orders in the area.
A wildfire ignited at around 17:50 LT on December 22 in the Fourmile Canyon area west of Boulder, Colorado, prompting evacuations near Wild Turkey Trail and adjacent rural zones.
The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office issued immediate alerts urging people to leave the area using Evening Star Road, as access through Wild Turkey Trail was restricted for emergency operations.
The fire, dubbed Wild Turkey Fire, quickly spread through dry grass and mixed forest vegetation under warm and dry late-December conditions.
Initial size estimates placed the burned area at about 0.8 ha (2 acres), and had grown to 1.6 ha (4 acres) by 21:00 LT. The blaze was finally contained at around 22:30 LT on December 22, according to the Sheriff’s office.
Mandatory evacuation orders were lifted by 23:00 LT, and residents were allowed to return once safety was confirmed. Authorities reported no injuries and no structural losses.
