Carrefour has partnered with courier service Cargus in Romania and e-commerce company Mercado Libre in Argentina to expand its digital and logistical footprint.
Romania: Cargus Partnership
In Romania, the partnership with Cargus will integrate nearly 450 Carrefour stores across Romania into the Cargus Ship & Go system, making parcel collection and dispatch more accessible, according to local media reports.
By the end of this year, over 150 Carrefour hypermarkets, supermarkets and Express formats will become active Cargus Ship & Go points, with an additional 250-300 locations scheduled for activation in 2026.
This expansion is set to boost Cargus’s out-of-home services, a sector that saw a 20% increase in parcel volumes in 2023.
Customers will be able to utilise these services at dedicated customer information points or near checkout areas within Carrefour stores, with all partner locations easily discoverable via the Cargus app and website.
Argentina: Mercado Libre
Across the Atlantic, Carrefour Argentina is embarking on a partnership with Mercado Libre, marking the e-commerce player’s entry into the fresh- and frozen-food sector.
The collaboration addresses critical logistical challenges associated with fresh produce, such as maintaining the cold chain and ensuring rapid delivery.
It will also see the integration of the Mercado Libre app experience with Carrefour’s extensive network of over 500 physical stores nationwide.
Initially launched in Buenos Aires, the service will soon expand to Greater Buenos Aires and other regions, according to local media.
Users can now access an official Carrefour store within the Mercado Libre platform, browsing approximately 10,000 products, including meats, fruits, vegetables and frozen foods, with scheduled deliveries available within convenient four-hour windows and free shipping for purchases over 65,000 pesos.
Innovative Logistics Model
Orders placed through the Mercado Libre app are prepared by trained Carrefour staff directly within selected physical stores.
Once prepared, packages are handed over to Mercado EnvÃos, Mercado Libre’s logistics network, ensuring the quick and intact delivery of fresh and refrigerated items.
