Stamford-based United Rentals is scaling up its use of AI-powered technology to help technicians service equipment.

The company, which is one of the largest equipment rental businesses in the world, says the Manual Assist AI web application will deliver diagnostics and immediate access to equipment manufacturer manuals to its service teams.

The application supports more than 4,000 monthly users, with the aim of speeding repairs, reducing downtime and keeping equipment working on jobsites.

The company says it was designed with a streamlined interface and intuitive search capabilities to reduce the time required to find critical information about equipment maintenance.

Manual Assist AI was developed in collaboration with Amazon Web Services.

“Manual Assist AI helps our service teams get more equipment back into service faster, which directly improves fleet utilization,” said Tony Leopold, chief technology and strategy officer at United Rentals.

The company has a network of more than 1,600 rental locations in North America, and several more around the world. It employs almost 28,000 workers.
