Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem: “Any threat to Muslim holy places is a threat to our churches and Christian holy places… The existential threat to the Christian presence is real and deepening… Christian Zionism is a misuse of the holy scriptures for political purposes.”

Yeah, sure, no way Muslims will turn churches to mosques the moment they have a chance, never happened before.

  2. I’m sure muslims respect churches, just look at turkey how they have taken the eyes off of each saint in the churches and the whole middle east destroying all religious temples for 100s of years except for the islamic ones. I’m sure the real problem is ZiOnIsM and not islam which openly calls to colonize the whole world with their religion

Edit: I edited my comment, sorry mods

  3. I applaud the sentiment, but it’s pretty easy to find an argument for- or against- *anything* in ‘holy texts’. It’s fair to say that all three Abrahamic religions give pretty mixed signals re: love-and-tolerance vs genocidal-wrath-against-infidels.

Christianity, Islam and Judaism have all, across millenia, been involved in holy wars / other atrocities, and these always, *always* involve a resource-grab of some kind–land, oil, spices, whatever.

There, religion is not the *instigator* of conflict, but rather its *enabler*; its role is to provide “grand narratives” that make it more tolerable, for whichever side, to justify, and tolerate, the dehumanizing experience of mass violence and death, whether in attack or defence; to rationalize the ultimate madness, which is the madness of war.

This is *particularly* the case for these religions, since they all spring from the same mythology of promised lands, persecution, grievance and a vengeful God who metes out disease, floods and death against the undeserving. You just swap out the ‘deserving’ and ‘undeserving’ with whichever groups suit the moment, and you’re on your way.

The ‘love your neighbour’ stuff is mostly there for plausible deniability. Violence, and the bigotry that enables it, are not bugs of the program. They’re features.

Not even 12 hours from the last post that had to be locked, we see another post designed to stir controversy over Israel/Palestine. Two more threads vaguely tangential to the issue have also been posted in the meantime.

Accounts post at 02:30 Cyprus time. Hopefully the mod team is looking into it?
