An Environment Agency official, who was controversial for prostitution of minors, has returned to public office. It was confirmed that the official was able to go to work again using the appeal review even though he was dismissed by the Ministry of Climate, Energy and Environment.
According to News 1 on the 24th, A, a public official from the Jeonbuk Regional Environmental Office, who was sent to the North in October last year on charges of violating the Child and Youth Sex Protection Act, returned to work.
In April, the Ministry of Environment issued a disciplinary action against A. However, A requested the Appeal Review Committee of the Ministry of Personnel Management to review the appeal. The committee reduced A’s disciplinary action to demotion. This opened the way to work for Mr. A.
However, the view of A’s return is not good. Even if the prosecution is suspended, it is widely believed that it is inappropriate for a public official who committed a sex crime to return to work. Above all, it is pointed out that the strict exclusion principle should be applied as the partner of the crime is a minor.
Civic groups also joined in. An official of the Jeonbuk Citizens’ Solidarity for Participatory Autonomy told News 1, “The biggest problem is the prosecution, which suspended prosecution of those who committed sex crimes against minors,” and pointed out, “Even if we return to the appeal review, we should not do the same thing in the same department.”
