GREECE, N.Y. — Greece Town Supervisor Bill Reilich announced the result of a Town Board vote on Monday for an increase in real property tax exemptions for qualifying lower-income seniors.

The Senior Citizen Property Tax Exemption in Greece allows lower-income seniors, with household income of $58,400 or less, to potentially see a 5% to 65% tax reduction, based on an income scale.

The unanimous vote comes after Governor Kathy Hochul signed the NYS Senate and Assembly legislation into law earlier in the year, allowing local municipalities to increase the maximum exemption from 50% to 65% in assessed value.

The legislation allows a municipality, like the town of Greece, to opt-in by passing it locally by March 31, 2026.

“Our approved 2026 Town Budget lowered the rate once again, bringing it down from $6.34 to $5.63 per thousand since I took office.  This additional exemption for our senior citizens further reestablishes our commitment to them,” Supervisor Reilich added.

Greece residents can call the Greece Assessor’s Office at (585) 723-3612 for eligibility information.
