By order of the outgoing Prime Minister Rosen Zhelyazkov, the Minister of Energy, Zhecho Stankov, conducted an inspection of Bulgaria’s fuel oil reserves. The inspection established that sufficient quantities of fuel oil are available within the country to meet domestic needs, the government press service announced.
On the basis of the confirmed adequate reserves, the Bulgarian government proposed urgent deliveries of boiler fuel (fuel oil) to the Republic of North Macedonia, with the aim of assisting the country under the state of emergency declared yesterday.
At the instruction of Prime Minister Zhelyazkov, the proposal was conveyed during a telephone conversation between Bulgaria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Georg Georgiev, and his counterpart from the Republic of North Macedonia, Timcho Mucunski. The Bulgarian side expressed its readiness to cooperate in securing the necessary quantities, in compliance with technical and logistical capabilities.
During the conversation, it was emphasized that the provision of assistance is an expression of good neighbourliness and solidarity and is aimed at guaranteeing energy security and stability in the region.
Bulgaria’s proposal was made after the government of the Republic of North Macedonia declared a state of emergency in the country last night, caused by difficulties in the supply of energy resources. The reason for the situation is the blockade of border crossings with the Republic of Greece by Greek farmers, which is obstructing the import of fuels and raw materials. | BGNES
