German footballer Sebastian Hertner, 34, met a tragic end after falling from a cable car at the Sven Kuk resort in northern Montenegro.
Hertner, a defender for fifth-division club Hamburg, fell approximately 70 meters when one of the carriages detached, according to German newspaper Bild.
Hertner’s wife was seriously injured, suffering a broken leg after being trapped under the carriage.
Three other tourists were also hurt in the accident, which is currently under investigation. The ski resort was temporarily closed following the incident.
During his career, Hertner played for several lower-division clubs, appearing in 95 second-division matches and representing Germany at the youth level, though he never played in the Bundesliga.
