How do they not know its location until its upon them?

Surely someone is watching all aircraft that leaves Russia heading west at this stage…

  3. This has been happening since the 1960’s they fly close to UK Northern airspace, trigger the Quick Alert force, who turn up take photos and wave, the ‘bombers’ 1970’s vintage ‘Bear’ aircraft then turn away and go home…it’s a return of the Cold War games like sneaking close to submarines and then activating ‘Active Sonar’ . They are detected leaving Russian airspace, the time to worry is when they begin anti radar detection manoeuvres and active jamming…Eat your Christmas pud it’s not a problem…

  4. They are trying so hard to be a superpower by flying their rust buckets from the 60’s near NATO.

  5. I was an Air cadet in the 80s, this was a common occurrence then, and I’m sure ever since.
    Slow news day?

This isn’t anything new Russia flies bombers close to nato frequently and the US also flies bombers close to Russia frequently

  7. Said it time and time again – this is a “good” thing.

Been going on regularly since the 60s.

It’s when they stop you need to worry.

  8. Putin is going to keep pushing and pushing and crossing every red line he is allowed to cross.

Shoot the cunts down the second they get a millimetre into our airspace and refuse to leave. Fucking pricks.

Slow news day? This is a regular thing. May aswell do a news report about the sky being a bit cloudy.

Vlad, stop flying your antiques. We’re more concerned about the planes breaking down mid-air (as I’m sure you are too).

  12. Ffs, these ” X scrambled X” titles are starting to be irritating. I don’t want to defend these mother fuckers but these Russian bombers were following a route. That fly was planned, and Finland always escorted them and knew in advance about their fly route. It’s not an air incursion or something.

  13. “Su-33 fighter jets escorted the long-range bombers during the flight, which, according to journalists, may have been a deliberate attempt to irritate the West near Santa Claus’ flight route from the North Pole.”

lmfao sometimes Russian plan-makers can be pretty funny

I wonder if all the Air Force’s of Europe scrambled their aircraft for a giant “battle of Britain” style dogfight against the Russian airforce what would be left in the air at the end of the day. A giant one and done, who would win. You have to factor in skill, discipline, aircraft capability, not just numbers of planes.

This is typical sabre rattling. They have insufficient resources to fight on one front, let alone two

Wow a propeller bomber that lights up like a Christmas Tree on modern radar. Its a early 1950s design. If there was ever an actual threat this would be destroyed just over the Russian border. Even in the Ukraine war they really never get close to the front. They fire their glide bombs deep within Russian territory to avoid being shot down.

  17. I’ve said this before, but Russian missions with long-distance bombers isn’t really anything new. They do this all the time over the Barents sea, and sometimes they do longer runs down towards UK.

When they get too close, QRA planes are sent out, and they fly together for some time.

Obviously this will be brought up more in media these days, because of all the tension – but it really isn’t anything to panic over.
